The Negotiation

We started contract negotiations at work on November 2. This was the first time I was directly involved in the negotiations. We are a fairly small Union, and really shouldn't have had to spend as much time on this. The company, on the other hand, thought that they could use the slow economy to really nail us. Our main concern was our insurance, wages, and pension. We needed to guarantee that we would have enough of an increase in wages to pay for the extra cost of our insurance. We also needed to make sure the contributions to our pension were kept at the proper level. We finally signed at 4PM on November 11, just a few hours before the old contract would expire. Tuesday night, I really thought I was going to be walking a picket line. I am so relieved that this is behind me. The stress has been high. Now, it's time to :relax:
